Just because Superman is known as the great blue boy scout doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his own flaws. After all, Superman was raised as a human. As many of us know, people make mistakes. But what are the moments when Superman is actually the worst? What are the moments that make fans scream in frustration because, well, seriously, Clark? What did you think was a good idea?
Batman versus Superman could have shown what happened if the world held Superman by the standards of a god. But there are many other pieces in the media Batman versus Superman Even so, it shows that the man of steel is all too imperfect in his actions. We’re going through the scale here (ignore Smallville because that’s its own special list).
Season 1 of the animated favorites Young justice is perhaps the clearest reason why Superman the worst sometimes. In the series he meets his clone Superboy, created by CADMUS. While it’s understandable that Superman isn’t thrilled that his genetic material is stolen and used to create his clone, it’s not the child’s fault either. We don’t ask supes to be dads but you know be a good person.
Instead, he completely ignores Superboy in the first season. Things are definitely tense, which in turn leads to Superboys anger problems. Ultimately, Superman takes on a role in his clone’s life. But wow, for a while he was just the worst for someone whose only crime was being born, you know?
Justice League Unlimited
The Timm verse Superman tends to be a fairly upright moral figure. There is definitely one episode that we particularly think of that is a long “WTF, Superman” for fans. Look at “Clash” that Captain Marvel introduced to the world Justice League Series. A quick reminder: Captain Marvel is the overpowering alter ego of 10-year-old Billy Batson.
The episode’s conflict is between ideological differences and, well, experience versus naivety. While Captain Marvel has joined the Justice League, tension builds when Marvel makes positive commentary on Lex Luthor to the press. It just spins from there. In the end, Marvel is leaving the Justice League and it looks really bad for Superman.
Mainly because he was so determined to believe Lex was up to something, he fell straight into the trap that, well, no, he wasn’t. For once, things were as innocent as they appeared. The league looks bad, Superman looks bad, and Billy has shaken his belief in superheroes pretty badly.
Injustice: Gods Among Us
Forget Batman versus Superman, this was the original superhero showdown. The popular video game depicts a world in which Superman becomes a fascist dictator determined to kill anyone who steps out of the regime’s line. Why? Well, the Joker is destroying Metropolis, the millions of people, including Lois Lane and her unborn child with Clark Kent.
Though the circumstances are tragic, it does not give Superman a license to take on the world, create a state of fear, and deeply divide the superhero community into opposing forces to make sure he kills or brainwashes everyone into his own Page connects. That’s just, wow, that’s so bad. And if you want to learn more about how terrible Superman can be in this universe?
Well good news! There is a comic book series that shows how excited the regime leader really is.
