CSA leaves Du Plessis, Tahir out of congratulatory post for CSK; Issues another after criticism

CSA eventually released a tweet congratulating all of the South Africans who play for CSK. Du Plessis contributed immensely to the fact that the CSK won their fourth IPL title on Friday (October 15) in Dubai.

“Congratulations to all South Africans who took part in the 2021 IPL final with the Chennai Super Kings and who won the victory for some of their big players like Steyn.

Previously, after the title triumph of the Super Kings, CSA published a post on Instagram with the headline: “Congratulations @lungingidi on winning the IPL title in 2021 with the Chennai Super Kings.”

This was not well received by Steyn and du Plessis themselves, who were supported by many others in slamming the cricket body.

Du Plessis, who emerged as the second-highest scorer of the season with 633 runs for CSK, responded to the message with the words: “Really ???”

Not at all impressed by the CSA, Steyn also hit the cricket body on his social media handle.

“Who runs this account? The last time I checked that Faf is not even retired, Imran is not retired, both have served CSA for years and weren’t worth a mention? Disgusting,” wrote the former South African pacemaker.

“CSA opens a can of worms with Twitter and Instagram. Whoever runs these accounts has to talk too,” tweeted Steyn.

“CSA has now blocked the comments section. Here is some advice. Do the right thing. Delete the post and add all the men involved, save yourself the embarrassment and ridicule, ”he added.

Former South African David Wiese, who joined Steyn, described it as “shocking” and said du Plessis and Tahir deserved a little more respect.

Wiese tweeted: “Absolutely shocking what’s going on with the @ OfficialCSA media account at the moment. @ Faf1307 and @ImranTahirSA certainly deserve a little more respect !!”

Relations between du Plessis and CSA deteriorated after the former refused to follow the board’s line of balancing its T20 freelance work with national obligations.

Annoyed, CSA decided not to add the batsman and Tahir to the T20 World Cup roster despite both players being available for selection.

The 37-year-old du Plessis was Man of the Match in the IPL final against the Kolkata Knight Riders with 86 of 59 balls.

Du Plessis, who retired from test cricket in early February this year after scoring 4,163 runs and missing out on CSA’s central contract, played his 100th IPL match on Friday.

However, he remains active in ODIs and T20Is in which he has scored 5507 and 1528 runs respectively.
